Taylor Swift has broken her silence on the unfortunate terror plot that caused the cancellation of three of her tour dates. The singer’s famous Eras Tour was disrupted when law enforcement discovered that her shows in Vienna were the target of an attack. At the time, the Blank Space singer didn’t address the incident, resulting in intense backlash. Now, it turns out she had a reason for not speaking.
Swift recently marked the end of her European leg of the tour in an emotional post. She admitted that playing her final dates in London “was a rollercoaster of emotions,” given that it came after the Vienna dates. “Having our Vienna shows canceled was devastating,” the Karma singer wrote. “The reason for the cancellations filled me with a new sense of fear and a tremendous amount of guilt.” However, she remained grateful to the authorities for their intervention that prevented the loss of lives. The pop star explained that she and her team immediately got to work after witnessing what happened with Vienna. They collaborated with British authorities to ensure optimum safety for the London shows.
Explaining why she stayed silent about the Vienna terror plot while working behind the scenes, Swift wrote:
“Let me be very clear: I am not going to speak about something publicly if I think doing so might provoke those who would want to harm the fans who come to my shows.”
She noted that the sensitivity of the case proved that “silence is actually showing restraint.” Swift said it was important for her to speak at the right time, so she made finishing the European tour safely her priority. “And it is with great relief that I can say we did that,” she declared.
Fans Defend Taylor Swift’s Silence, Seek Apology From Critics
Following Swift’s heartfelt message, Swifties marched online to express their anger at the critics. “Some of you owe Taylor a big ass apology, and you better make it good. Her own fans shouldn’t be making her feel bad,” wrote one Internet user. Another similar comment read:
“Everyone owes Taylor Swift an apology, bc its obvious why she’s been silent on so many issues: TO KEEP THE FANS AND EVERYONE WORKING FOR THE TOUR SAFE”!
A fourth fan praised the singer, writing, “She did the right thing by thinking about her fans’ safety. Thank u, Taylor!” Recall that on August 7, authorities reported the arrest of two Austrian men — a 19-year-old and a 17-year-old — who wanted to “kill a large number of people” at Swift’s concert. Per CNN, Police recovered chemical substances in the house of an older suspect. Days later, a third arrest was made of an 18-year-old with ISIS ties. Swift’s shows from Aug. 8 to 10 had to be shelved.
