Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer Gameplay Debut
If you were on Twitter the night before, what comes next won’t surprise you, as a leaker showed off massive footage. However, if you weren’t, then welcome to the next generation of Call of Duty multiplayer: Modern Warfare 3.
Over 250 creators sat down and showed off multiplayer footage of what’s to come. Modern Warfare 3 is a love letter to 2009’s Modern Warfare 2, with all 16 launch maps taken straight from the latter title’s archives.
Creators showed off updated visuals to fan favorites such as Rust, Highrise, Favela, and many more. They also showed off an in-depth look at the new perk system, which revolves around different gear sets. It was strange seeing players slide cancel on the roofs of Highrise, but it all looked very well done.
Alongside the gameplay, two modes were shown off, by the names of Cutthroat and War. The latter mode returns from Call of Duty: WW2 and thrusts players into a cinematic, objective-based mode. The former is a new mode, pitting players against each other in a 3v3v3 format. Players must capture a moving flag while avoiding foes in this elimination mode.
A few closing points; Treyarch is returning to work on Ranked Play. It should launch during Season 1.5 of MW3. Finally, the “Carry Forward” system wasn’t shown off, but more details should come in the near future.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Zombies (COD: MWZ)
Modern Warfare 3 will be the first modern-based Call of Duty to feature zombies, with Treyarch behind the wheel for this iteration. Introducing COD: MWZ: a mash-up between COD: DMZ and Outbreak from Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.
A fire team of six drops into a large map and must complete a list of objectives. After an hour, the squad of six must extract, or they’ll succumb to the horde. If you played Outbreak, it functions the same, as the Zombies will progressively grow in strength the longer you’re in a match. Unfortunately, this means no round-based experience will be in this title.
Outside of that, expect the typical Zombies formula to be present:
- Mystery Box
- Perk-a-Cola machines
- Wonder Weapons
- A gripping narrative regarding the Dark Aether
- Separate camo grind for dedicated Zombies players
Call of Duty Warzone Introduces New Map
The moment of truth for many, COD Next 2023’s Warzone segment introduced a new map: Urzikstan. This is also the map Zombies takes place on!
Urzikstan is a new large-scale map, introducing a few new gimmicks. Viewers got to see the new horizontal ziplines for fast getaways. There’s also a new Gulag, which features a traditional 3-lane format. There are two variations of the Gulag: one with and without Night Vision.
Urzikstan will also be home to a train that’ll drive throughout the map. Interestingly enough, you and your squad can take control of the train. Head to the front to control it, either by speeding it up or slowing it down. However, enemy combatants can slow it down from the rear with an emergency break.
Three new perks will be introduced:
- Shrouded: Throw a smoke grenade when you are downed
- Irradiated: Move faster and take less damage in the gas
- Resolute: Increase movement when damaged
Final bits of info included the return of Fortune’s Keep and Rebirth Island in 2024, as well as Ranked Play for Urzikstan coming in the future after it launches.
Warzone Mobile Gets a Release Date
The shortest segment of COD Next 2023, Warzone Mobile finally got a release date of Spring 2024. It’ll feature Verdansk and Rebirth Island at launch, while multiplayer modes and maps like Shipment and Shoot House will also be at launch.
