It is just a couple of short days before The Evil Within 2 is released on Friday, October the 13th.  To prep gamers for the scares, Bethesda Softworks has released the launch trailer for the upcoming third-person survival horror title.

The trailer focuses a fair bit on the backstory of the game, namely Detective  Sebastian Castellanos searching for his missing daughter whom he thought had been dead for several years. Turns out there was more to Lily’s apparent death in a house fire then may have initially been evident. Castellanos is on the case to figure out what is going on while hanging on to his sanity. His torment is actually tangible in the trailer with his thoughts on Lily’s “death” splayed across a wall such as, “You didn’t believe your wife” and “You refused to see”.

The back story to The Evil Within 2 is all well and good but fans of the series are sure to want to see the many creepy creatures Sebastian will have to face in the game thanks to STEM. The enemies are many and varied from zombie-like foes foaming at the mouth to huge grotesque multi-limbed monsters. The STEM system which connects the minds of several individuals is responsible for Castellanos’ perception of the world around him and as an extension the horrors in the game.

The Evil Within 2 will be available on PC, Xbox One , and PS4.  While the game celebrates some of the more depraved human inclines, Bethesda recently announced an initiative associated with the game called The Good Within.

The campaign is in support of the American Red Cross with a $15,000 goal on Crowdrise. Bethesda will match contributions up to that goal. It is somewhat fitting that a game about battling the darker side of human nature can contribute to a cause that does this in real life.
