Alonso also noted the information spreading about her was “false” and claimed she chose to leave, hence her retirement. However, her words contradicted earlier reports about her behavior during the Paris Olympics, where she sparked controversy with visits to the Eiffel Tower and Disneyland.
“Her presence is creating an inappropriate atmosphere within Team Paraguay,” the head of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, Larissa Schaerer, said in a statement. The President of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, Camilo Perez, echoed similar sentiments, noting:
“We are a serious team that seeks to compete, not to go sightseeing.”
