There’s plenty to be excited about in the way of announcements now that 2024 is winding down. In fact, we still have The Game Awards and PAX Unplugged to look forward to in December. Also, in December, we can look forward to a completely new experience from within the Alien franchise: Alien: Rogue Incursion. This is the first Alien game to be playable in VR, paving the way for even more hype towards the upcoming Alien: Isolation sequel.
The game is expected to be a first-person action-horror game that will completely immerse players and show them what it feels to be chased by a Xenomorph. Players will take control of Zula Hendricks, an ex-Colonial Marine exploring the uncharted planet Purdan. Of course, things go awry, and she must fight to survive all kinds of horrors while journeying to the infested Gemini Expoplanet Solutions research facility.
Similar to Alien: Isolation, the Xenomorphs will be intelligent and can choose their own paths concerning attacks. They’ll even spawn dynamically based on what the player is currently doing. Players can also use weapons and gear like the Pulse Rifle and Motion Tracker (thank God).
I think it’s about time we received a true Alien title for VR, especially considering just how acclaimed the sound design in Alien: Isolation was. Can you imagine having to run away from Xenomorphs while physically being in their nest, listening to them above and around you while trying to escape and survive? Despite how unappealing that sounds in the real world, I can’t wait until it officially comes out in December.
Alien: Rogue Incursion is set to release for PSVR2 and SteamVR on December 19, 2024 and for Meta Quest 3 early 2025.
