Imprinting and extracting play a significant role in Diablo 4. Aspects allow you to customize gear and give your character excellent buffs in Diablo 4. With this newly added game mechanic, you can extract Aspects from any item you don’t want to use and imprint them onto another one. Aspects can be confusing at first, and you may not know how to use them. Luckily, we’re here to show you how to extract or imprint Aspects and their sole purpose in Diablo 4.
How to Extract Aspects in Diablo 4

You can extract Aspects by visiting the Occultist, found in all major cities. You can locate the Occultist in your town by pressing M and opening the map. Once you reach level 25, you can visit the Occultist. Extracting an Aspect allows you to pull it off an item like a weapon or armor. Some Aspects may be attached to low-level items or items you don’t want to use. Therefore, after extracting that Aspect from the item, you can use it for any other item you wish in Diablo 4.
Extracted Aspects become an item in your Aspect inventory and can be attached to another piece of gear. The item you remove the Aspect from is wholly destroyed, and only the Aspect remains. If you have an item you do not want to be destroyed, you should be imprinting instead of extracting it.
How to Imprint Aspects in Diablo 4

After extracting your Aspect, or if you already have an Aspect in your inventory, you can imprint it to any item you want. Some Aspects are class-bound, while some can be used in any class. Some dungeons or world bosses will earn you corresponding Aspects. You can get unique traits by attaching these Aspects to your gear. So, how to imprint Aspects onto your equipment in Diablo 4?
For this, you must reach level 25 and go to the Occultist, which you can find in every town. First, select the item you want to imprint Aspect. Then you will see two options, Codex of Power and Aspect. If you select Aspect, you imprint an Aspect in your inventory directly to that item. That piece of gear gains a new Aspect and completely deletes an Aspect if it already has an Aspect on it. You can only use each Aspect once. This means that if you imprint an Aspect on an item, you cannot transfer that Aspect to another item again.
How to Use Codex of Power
Codex of Power is where things get a little different. Codex of Power is also an Aspect but of the permanent type. This is a powerful Aspect type often used in the end-game. It is a mechanic where you can add fantastic passives to your character. You can browse your Codex of Powers from the Collection section by pressing the Y key in Diablo 4. Codex of Powers is unlimited, and you can use it as many times as you want. It is possible to use the same Codex of Power for more than one item, unlike normal Aspects. However, the Codex of Power is more challenging to get in Diablo 4.
