After last month’s Hellfire Gala, the Fall of X is officially underway and has already put newcomer Gimmick on a new path. In the wake of the devastation of this year’s Gala, the X-Men have fallen, and mutants are struggling to adapt and survive. This leads to some surprising people stepping up to fill the roles left empty. One such surprise is Madelyne Pryor, who has assembled a new team of Dark X-Men to fight for mutantkind. Even more surprising, the young Gimmick is joining this Dark X-Men team.
Get To Know Gimmick
Carmen Maria Cruz AKA Gimmick made her debut as part of the Children of Atom, a group of human vigilantes who modeled themselves after the X-Men. Using alien tech, they posed as mutants to fight crime in the hopes of joining Krakoa. Carmen adopted the name Gimmick and modeled herself after Gambit. Eventually, the group proved themselves worthy by defeating the band of criminals known as Hell’s Belles. This led to a meeting with the real X-Men, though they were soon ousted due to being mere humans and told to go home.
However, right before the Hellfire Gala, old-school X-Men team member Storm offered an invite to the prestigious event as Gimmick is actually a mutant. Gimmick holds psionic shapeshifting powers. This drove a rift between her and her former teammates, though it was soon squashed, and Carmen began training on Krakoa. She went on to help lead a group of misfit trainees on missions, including one into Madelyne Pryor’s domain.
Joining the Dark X-Men
After Orchis’ attack on Krakoa, many mutants fled Earth. One of the mutants who was absent for the attack was Gimmick. However, it wasn’t long before she was snatched by Orchis and sent to a “re-education camp.” Thankfully, she was soon rescued by Pryor’s latest Dark recruits including Gambit, Havok, Azazel, Zero, and Emplate. Now Gimmick is finally on an X-Men roster and is ready to prove herself during the worst period of mutant history.
