X-Men’s Storm is branching out on her own this week in her own solo series from Marvel. The electrifying five-issue limited series comes from the creative duo of Ann Nocenti and Sid Kotian. Together, they are the weather-manipulating mutant on a transformative journey. Storm will push her omega-level powers to new, and shocking, heights.
Time for X-Men’s Storm To Shine
Storm’s solo series has been a long time coming. The X-man and powerful mutant has been a staple in the Krakoan Age of X-Men comics over the past couple of years. Featuring in titles like X-Men: Red and Storm & The Brotherhood of Mutants, the Marvel hero has proven her status as one of Krakoa’s best and mightiest warriors. Now, this new series is looking back to a time when Storm oversaw the X-Men team. Back when she was rocking that awesome mohawk in her “punk” era.
As Storm’s powers evolve, she loses control during an inconvenient moment. This kicks off a journey that will see Storm confronting a new enemy, pushing herself to extraordinary new heights, and falling in love. While this is Storm’s moment, some familiar faces will be making appearances on her journey. Heroes like Wolverine, Rogue, Kitty Pryde, Colossus, and Nightcrawler are here to help Storm on her journey.
Bringing The Punk Rock
When this solo series was first announced, all the way back in January, writer Ann Nocenti couldn’t wait to share how cool the project is. She spoke with Marvel about her influences on this specific era of Storm’s life: “When Editors Mark Basso and Drew Baumgartner asked me to write a story with ‘punk’ Storm, I wanted the story to reflect her outfit. I thought about punk musicians like Iggy Pop and the Sex Pistols, and their apocryphal rebellious attitude. So it was exciting to start from there, and think, ‘What would Storm rebel against?’ Her own powers? The X-Men? Being Team leader?”
Storm #1 is out on Wednesday, May 24!
