Amazon’s hit Fallout TV show on Prime Video has renewed interest in the long-running video game series, but more than any other game, Fallout 76 has gotten the biggest bump in players. Bethesda just confirmed how big of a difference the show made in terms of player engagement across all the games in the series.
According to the developers, a total of almost 5 million people hopped back into different Fallout games in the series in the span of just 24 hours. The increase in player numbers wasn’t limited to just the recent entries, as even the original Fallout games published by Interplay showed higher player numbers. The same goes for Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, and even the mobile game, Fallout Shelter.
Fallout 76 Got Over 1 Million Players in a Day Because of the Show
Although the rise in players is impressive across the entire franchise, Bethesda specifically mentioned Fallout 76, the most recent game in the series, as it got over one million players in only one day. These numbers are usually only seen upon the release of a popular game after years of hype.
This is ironic because even though it is the most recent game, it isn’t known for being the best Fallout game. Fallout 76 launched with a plethora of bugs and other technical issues that made it very difficult for even the most devoted fans to enjoy the game. That, coupled with the fact that there were nearly no NPCs to interact with, made the world seem empty. But since its release, a lot of those issues have been fixed, which is why it might be worth playing in 2024.
This rise in player numbers is coming just in time for the current-gen Fallout 4 update which will be released on April 25, which is sure to add to the increasing numbers because of the show.
