A family in Indiana is demanding answers after a pregnant woman was allegedly discharged from Franciscan Health Crown Point while she was in active labor, only for her baby to be born on the side of the road minutes later. Relatives have shared videos and detailed personal accounts across TikTok, Facebook, and other platforms, describing what they believe was a preventable and deeply negligent situation that left the woman crying, pleading, and visibly suffering while staff continued the process of sending her away.
Here’s What They Say Happened
Her family says she arrived at the hospital shortly after midnight and was initially told she was three centimeters dilated. She was then placed on monitors for more than five hours while her contractions continued to intensify. In her account, she walked the halls of the labor and delivery unit as her contractions shifted from five minutes apart to four minutes apart, and eventually one minute apart. Throughout her stay, she says she never saw or spoke with a doctor. It was only nurses who checked on her, including during the final examination, where one reportedly noted she could feel the baby’s head but still insisted there had been “no change.”
Even as her pain increased and her contractions grew closer together, she says she was informed she would be discharged and could return only if her labor progressed further. She begged to remain in the labor and delivery triage, crying out to the nurses’ station and asking them not to send her home while she was in such clear distress. However, according to her, she only received blank stares and cold responses, including being told that the doctor had ordered the discharge.
Her Husband Had to Deliver the Baby
The woman stated that she was never told to seek care at another facility and described the treatment she received as “inhumane.” As she was wheeled downstairs, she says a nurse even touched her stomach and told her family, “see her uterus is still soft.” In the videos her relatives posted, she can be seen wiping away tears as she is wheeled through the hospital. At one moment, when the staff paused near the glass doors, she suddenly clutched her abdomen and her face tightened from the pain, struggling to breathe through the contraction while whimpering softly.
Despite these visible signs of distress, she was allowed to leave. By the time she reached the car, her labor had progressed so quickly that her husband had no choice but to deliver their baby on the side of the road.
Here’s What Viewers Are Saying About the Indiana Hospital Incident
Reactions online have been overwhelmingly emotional, with many people expressing outrage, disbelief, and concern for the woman and her newborn. “This makes me so mad and upset,” one person wrote. Another said, “This is wild!!!! I can’t imagine going thru this!!!!😡😡😡” Someone else added, “That’s so heartbreaking.. they clearly see she’s in a lot of pain.” A different commenter questioned the legality of what allegedly happened: “This is ILLEGAL they cannot kick anyone out of the hospital.”
Some were baffled by the hospital’s decision. “What is going on with these hospitals???” one netizen asked. A second pointed out, “The fact that they are wheeling her out is evidence she needed medical assistance.” A third wondered, “I’m confused. Did they not have room? Why not transfer her in an ambulance instead.”
