The 2024 iHeart Awards featured many highlights, one of which was a duet performance by icons Jennifer Hudson and Cher. The pair took to the stage at The Dolby Theater in Los Angeles for a lovely rendition of one of Cher’s hit songs. Given their powerhouse vocals, the duo’s iHeart Awards performance was indeed one that left many with goosebumps. However, as the dust settled, accusations flew, with fans claiming that Hudson attempted to overshadow Cher on stage.
Jennifer Hudson and Cher Perform Together Onstage
On Monday night, Jennifer Hudson and Cher left guests feeling nostalgic after they stepped onstage for a duet at the iHeart Awards. For the event, Hudson dazzled in a skin-tight sheer diamonte bodysuit with a skirt-like fringing at the bottom. She paired the outfit with a black satin jacket.
On the other hand, Cher opted for a diamond-encrusted top with black cargo pants. Together, the pair gave an iconic performance of Cher’s 1998 classic hit Believe in a nostalgic and contemporary rendition. The clip from the iHeart Awards performance showed the duo holding hands. Hudson eventually wrapped up the song by belting an impressive last note while Cher stopped to look on.
Fans Slam Jennifer Hudson
Undoubtedly, Jennifer Hudson and Cher’s performance would go down in history as one of the best. Yet, amid the glittering lights and soaring melodies, fans couldn’t help but notice a perceived power struggle on stage. In no time, X erupted with comments, with many accusing Hudson of over-singing and wanting to outshine Cher.
“Cher is the most gracious woman in the world to stand there and let that nobody scream over her like that,” one fan wrote.
Another person shared:
“That scream at the end was just so unnecessary. I wanted to hear more of Cher.”
A third fan also relayed:
“Jennifer always had to do too much like we know you can sing omg🙄.”
A fourth tweet noted that the rendition would have been great, but the romantic Hudson ruined it with her singing. A fifth person stated:
“Jennifer hollering like she’s auditioning for a church choir… in the deep South. Unnecessary and rude. Not your moment J-Dud.”
However, amid all the negative thoughts, some fans believed the performance was one of the best renditions of the song.
