Treyarch got us by surprise again, this time, revealing something that is 100% relevant to the Origins map from Black Ops 2 in Black Ops 6 Zombies. After rumors about the return of the Ray Gun MKII in Black Ops 6 Zombies, it seems like Season 2 is giving us a way more iconic wonder weapon to utilize in The Tomb.
When Treyarch went on record to say the Zombies map will be set at a dig site in northern France, what else would we think of except for Black Ops 2‘s classic map, Origins? It’d be crazy if the developers took this opportunity and threw it out the window. But, Treyarch isn’t messing around when it comes to Zombies, and the new Black Ops 6 map The Tomb, is bringing back the Ice Staff!
First seen in Black Ops 2 Zombies, the Ice Staff is one of the four elemental wonder weapons in Origins that you’d have to complete its easter egg to achieve, just like the swords in Citadelle des Morts. However, there’s a head-scratching detail about the Ice Staff wonder weapon returning in Black Ops 6 The Tomb, and that’s if its other elemental brothers are returning or not.
The doubt comes by way of an official blog post by Call of Duty, stating that there’ll be a returning wonder weapon coming with The Tomb: singular. We have no idea how the story of this map unfolds and it’s quite obvious that The Tomb is not a one-to-one copy of Origins. So it could be that the other elemental staffs are missing somehow, but mentioned? Or maybe the Dark Aether timeline only has one staff and that’s it.
The Ice Staff in The Tomb Black Ops 6 Zombies map looks identical to the one we saw a decade ago, but, it’s got more functionality features this time around. For instance, you can plant the staff on the ground, presumably freezing any of the walking/running dead around it.
Speaking of which, there’s a gladiator armored zombie in The Tomb map in Black Ops 6, which looks very much like the ancient zombies breaking out from the underground in Origins’ intro. Another nod, perhaps? Remember the EMP Mimics last year in MW3 Zombies Dark Aether? They’re back, and they’re accompanied by the Doppelghasts to hunt us, which is pretty sweet.
The new season of Black Ops 6 Zombies also features the return of an “iconic SMG” that was rumored to be MP40, but it’s not. For some reason, the PPSH-41 is more iconic than the WWII German SMG that’s featured in every single CoD Zombies game except for Cold War. Go figure.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone Season 2 kicks off on January 28, 2025.
