Rockstar Games already damaged its reputation with the horrible GTA: The Trilogy remaster released in 2021. Launching games in such a wonky state and void of relevant DLC isn’t typically Rockstar’s style, and it certainly didn’t go down a treat with fans. This was all partially alleviated by teasers for GTA 6, but now it seems as though the publisher/fan relationship has taken another step backward. News of a Red Dead Redemption PS4 and Nintendo Switch Remaster went down like a lead balloon as it was confirmed that virtually no new features would be included, despite the game’s $50 price tag.
Fans Are Upset: “Do Not Buy Red Dead Redemption Remaster”
The most telling negative reaction is a post shared on Red Dead Redemption‘s official subreddit. User ‘dtv20’ calls the community not to buy the game’s upcoming remaster, citing a lack of graphical improvements and no multiplayer mode. The replies under the post are overwhelmingly in support of that opinion.
User ‘Brewfinger’ says, “I’ve been wanting to play this for YEARS. Fifty bucks for a copy on PS4 is way smoother than either finding and buying a PS3 or getting a gaming PC.” in the comments section.
The second popular opinion declares that even the small changes are enough, but the remaster is overpriced. User Diaper_milk says, “The game is a masterpiece. You don’t need all the modern-day mocap and graphics technology to make a good game. Although a remake would be nice, Red Dead Redemption is still amazing on its own.”
It’s also worth noting that the upcoming remastered game will make it possible to play Red Dead Redemption on a portable device. We can’t say the same for Steam Deck since the remaster isn’t coming on PC, but Nintendo Switch is adding Red Dead Redemption to its library before PC. It would perhaps be better received if the remaster also arrived on PC and Steam Deck.
User ‘furioushunter12’ says, “I didn’t buy the game on ps3 because I was hoping for an eventual remake or remaster. Imma just bought it from eBay for like $20~“.
User phldirtbag weighed in as well, explaining “I bought the GOTY edition for $10 to play at 4k on my One X. $50 for a simple port on a 13yo game is something else.”
