According to TMZ, a county official confirmed that the actor died on Monday in Texas. The outlet also reported that Mitte died by suicide. Law enforcement is currently investigating his death, and authorities have not yet confirmed further details.
Mitte’s representatives later released a statement to TMZ expressing their grief over his death. “It is with profound sadness we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte,” they said.

They also highlighted his best-known role and advocacy work, adding, “RJ Mitte was best known for his role as Walter ‘Flynn’ White Jr. on AMC’s critically acclaimed, award-winning series Breaking Bad. Drawing from his own experience living with cerebral palsy, Mitte brought authenticity to the role and built a platform on disability awareness and inclusion. Beyond entertaining friends and family around the world, he served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s.
Mitte rose to fame playing Walter “Flynn” White Jr., the son of Walter White, in AMC’s hit crime drama Breaking Bad. He went on to appear in other television and film projects, including the drama series Switched at Birth and the film Dixieland, expanding his career beyond the role that made him widely recognized.
During his October 5 appearance on The Joe Vulpis Podcast, Mitte reflected on his teenage years filming Breaking Bad and growing up alongside his castmates. He spoke about working closely with Bryan Cranston and how the series became a life-changing experience, even though he was too young to fully understand its eventual impact. The conversation offered a personal glimpse into his connection to the show, which he spent much of his adolescence filming with Cranston, Anna Gunn, and Aaron Paul.
