Meghan Markle‘s lifestyle brand isn’t gaining a good rapport among fans. After a failed joint Netflix venture with her husband, the Duchess struck out on her own. Meghan announced the launch of her lifestyle brand, America Riveria Orchard, on March 15. Now, more than a month later, she has unofficially released its first product and is recruiting her friends to help spread the news. However, fans can’t help but see it as a desperate move.
Meghan Markle’s BFF Abigail Spencer Endorses American Riveria Orchard Jam
Meghan Markle began the roll out of her brand last week and sent her first product — a jar of jam — to a select few people. One of them is her close pal and former Suits co-star, Abigail Spencer, who wasted no time promoting the produce on Instagram. Spencer shared a carousel of photos featuring a basket of lemons and a jar of strawberry jam from American Riveria Orchard. The actress was glammed up, donning a gorgeous black summer dress. She accessorized with huge sunglasses and a stack of necklaces.
A happy Spencer took several shots of the package while outdoors in the yard with her dog. She captioned the post, “This jam is my jam. A delicious taste of what’s to come indeed… love you so M. @americanrivieraorchard.” The post garnered over 15,000 likes but was accompanied by a backlash from fans.
Fans Label Abigail Spencer’s Endorsement As Cringe
Many seemed displeased with the promotion and the quality of the product, and they couldn’t hold their tongues. One fan remarked, “Not even an attempt to remove the crappy lemons and dead flowers? It’s like a cheap farmer’s market basket.” Another penned, “How would you know it’s your jam….. the jar isn’t even opened 🤣🤣, you people just make it so much worse for Markel.” A third fan lamented:
“Like how can you not realise your friend is a manipulative narcissist?”
A similar comment read, “How much did the grifter pay you to roll around with a basket of lemons and jam? Hilarious to watch.” This disappointed follower posted, “Imagine being the princess of a whole country and commonwealth only to give it all up to sell a few jars of jam to the unknowns.”
Others, however, had a bone to pick with Spencer’s approach to showcasing her friend’s brand. “This is so cringe. And not even good staging,” commented one follower. Another fan wrote, “These photos are embarrassing and weird. Who rolls around on their lawn with a basket of lemons?”
The backlash comes a week after Spencer broke the internet with a rare photo of her, Meghan, and a third friend. The trio teamed up to promote a t-shirt for the charity organization Alliance of Moms for a Mother’s Day campaign. Meghan Markle and Abigail Spencer seem to be flourishing in their friendship amid the criticism.
