If you didn’t already know, many Persona protagonists you’ve had to name actually have their own canon names. It isn’t always a known thing, but plenty of diehard fans prefer to go with the names that developers originally intended for characters over made-up ones. Starting with the original third installment of Persona, you can choose a different name besides the default one. However, beginning with this same game, the protagonist’s name isn’t given to you. You’d only know about it if you watched the anime or any media where the protagonist appears outside of the game. You could also figure out your MC’s name in Persona 3 Reload by using a really simple language-changing trick discovered thanks to a Reddit user.

Persona games use Japanese as their primary language, but this varies depending on both your location of purchase and your chosen language settings. If you change the language mid-game, you’ll receive the notice above.

Due to a change in language settings, the protagonist’s name will default to “Makoto Yuki,” To restore the original name, the language must match the one that was set when the name was entered.

Other Reddit users noted that this was also something that players used to find out the name of the protagonist in other remakes and rereleases, including Persona 5 Royal, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 3 Portable. The names are exclusive to remakes or rereleases because they’ve already been canonized by that point. That means that when the sixth game comes out, you shouldn’t expect this trick to work before an anime of any sort comes out. Plenty of users showed their surprise in both genuine and comical ways, showing that regardless of this information, players still want name the MC whatever they please.

Woah woah WOAH!! You’re telling me his name isn’t actually “Boingus Sprongus”?!?!!? My eyes have been open and my dreams crushed idk what to do with myself anymore😔”

I think in future titles they should voice the canon names, and just leave them blank if people choose a different name. This would save them from having to dub over so many lines.”
