Donald Trump’s inauguration event has booked another performer: Billy Ray Cyrus. The “Achy Breaky Heart” singer will take the stage at the Make America Great Again Victory Rally in Washington, D.C., on Sunday, Jan. 19. So far, his addition to the lineup hasn’t exactly been well received. Considering Trump has previously mocked Miley Cyrus, fans don’t understand why the country music star would agree to do the concert. Since Billy Ray’s relationship with his daughter is already estranged, fans think the pair will never be able to make up after this.
Donald Trump’s Inauguration Celebration Adds Billy Ray Cyrus
Trump will hold various events in Washington, D.C. to celebrate his second presidential term. He’ll officially be sworn in alongside Vice President-Elect J.D. Vance on Monday, Jan. 20. However, his inauguration festivities will begin this weekend. For example, on Sunday, Trump will appear at the Make America Great Again Victory Rally, where he’ll deliver a speech and be joined by a few musical guests. Kid Rock, The Village People, and Lee Greenwood have all been previously announced as performers. Now, Billy Ray Cyrus has also been confirmed to take the stage.
Billy Ray’s performance has been met with a lot of backlash due to his daughter, Miley Cyrus, and Donald Trump’s history together. Over the years, the “Flowers” singer has repeatedly criticized Trump in interviews and on social media. In 2016, Miley called Trump a “f*cking nightmare” in a scathing Instagram post. Then, in 2019, she blasted him again in a cover story with Vanity Fair by labeling him a “completely racist, sexist, hateful a**hole.”
In return, Trump shaded the Disney Channel alum during a campaign rally last year. “Billy Ray Cyrus is here. Where is Billy Ray? He’s around here someplace, and he’s great,” Trump said during the event, which the country singer attended. “He’s a conservative guy. I said, ‘How did you get such a liberal daughter? How had that happened, Billy Ray?'”
Hopes For Reconciliation May Be Gone For Good, According to Fans
Fans think Billy Ray’s decision to perform at Trump’s inauguration will further drive a wedge between him and Miley. “Billy Ray lost his last chance at reconnecting with Miley,” one person said on X. “No wonder Miley cut him off,” someone else commented. Another fan even speculated that Billy Ray and Miley’s opposing political views may have played a part in their estrangement. “And for that reason Miley Cyrus stopped talking to her father,” they said.
The Hannah Montana actress hasn’t publicly commented on her father’s decision to support Trump at his inauguration ceremony.
