NFL fans are reeling after Travis Kelce hinted at retirement following the Chiefs’ recent game in Cleveland. On an episode of his podcast, the Kansas City baller spoke with his brother, Jason Kelce, about the “surreal” feeling of playing in their hometown. In case you need a refresher, Kelce is from Cleveland, and according to him, playing there is a special feeling. Throughout his lengthy professional career, he’s only played in The Land twice. The Super Bowl champ went on, saying it could’ve been “the last time” he’ll play there. However, he’s still unsure about his plans.
“It felt so surreal. I don’t know if it’s the last time I’ll play in Cleveland, but it kinda felt like I was giving it one last hoorah before I’m done because I’ve only played there twice in 12 years,” he said. “It was a special day for me personally.”
Regarding Kelce’s last game — the tight end snagged four receptions for 27 yards. So far this season, the 6’5″ superstar has scored two touchdowns and earned 709 receiving yards. For reference, during the 2023 season, Travis snagged 5 touchdowns and 984 yards. Earlier this season, Kelce spoke about his performance. He admitted he was struggling to get on the same page with his friend, Patrick Mahomes. He continued: “I’m just not on the same page as Pat. It can get frustrating. It can get f*cking frustrating. That’s for damn sure.”
Football Fans Don’t Want Travis To Go Just Yet
Thanks to his previous Super Bowl wins, Travis Kelce has been a big deal in the NFL. However, as of late, his relationship with Taylor Swift has brought him even more attention. The “Cruel Summer” hitmaker has been a regular at Arrowhead Stadium since the start of their relationship. When she’s present, the commentators can’t stop talking about Kelce and Swift as an item. Consequently, many have grown tired of the repetitive conversations on Sunday, Monday, and Thursday Night Football.
“I’d like to see him retire so we’re not subjected to the Taylor Show instead of the football game we tuned in for,” someone wrote. “Nothing against his skills as a player, but he’s allowed them to be compeltely overshadowed by her to the point that many forget he’s actually a football player instead of Taylor’s Arm Candy.” Someone else wrote: “I think I speak for every single NFL fan in the entire coutry when I say, ‘Good.'”
However, the comments weren’t all bad. A third fan came to Kelce’s defense, saying he’s one of the greatest tight ends of all time. “He is a great player and an outstanding human being,” they posted. “The hate is just ridiculous; I will miss him when he is not playing.”
Kansas City Chiefs fans don’t have to worry about Travis Kelce leaving the NFL just yet.
“I’m still enjoying coming to work not dreading practice,” he said in September 2024. “I’m just having so much fun and just so appreciative and so fortunate that I’ve been able to come into year 12 and still have this energy and this love and the ability to get to work.”
