The wait for Fast and Furious 9 will be extended by a couple weeks. Per Variety, Universal is delaying the movie for a couple weeks so instead of the movie coming out April 10th, it will be May 22nd, 2020.

The Fast and Furious series has gone through major evolutionary changes and has become one of the most popular franchises since the release of Fast Five. This is in large part to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as lawman Luke Hobbs. Johnson’s next role in the Fast and Furious franchise will be with the upcoming spin-off film, Fast and Furious Presents: Hobbs And Shaw. You can see the trailer for that down below:

With The Rock out of Fast and Furious 9, the movie’s star-power is mostly left to Vin Diesel. The series has gone on to make over $4 billion with the previous 2 entries making about a billion on their own. We will see how this new movie does in terms of sales.

Right now with the movie locked in on the May slot of next year, its direct competition is Godzilla vs Kong, and The SpongeBob Movie: It’s a Wonderful Sponge. Godzilla vs Kong should be a big box-office blockbuster. It’s a Wonderful Sponge has a potentially big audience as well but with it being aimed more for a younger audience, I don’t really see it being much competition. But, we still have a year to see how everything shakes out.

What are your thoughts on all of this? Are you excited for Fast and Furious 9? Do you plan to see Hobbs and Shaw when it hits theaters in a couple of months? Or is this just not your type of franchise? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned to The Nerd Stash for all of your nerdy news and needs!
