Title: Fear the Walking Dead “Pillar of Salt”
Network: AMC
Air Date: September 18th, 2016
Genre: Serial Drama, Horror
Fear the Walking Dead just aired another all new episode and… that ending has my mind racing. It was racing not because of what we saw but what… or I should say who, we did not see. I really found those few seconds at the end to be some of the most exciting of the episode. Travis standing there in the dark, seeing the hotel lit up in the night. As the lights turn off he walks past the camera into the darkness towards the hotel and then… nothing. No Chris. Travis appeared to be alone. So just what does this mean? While some might think that Chris has gone off with the other younger group, I think Chris is dead.
If you read my review last week, you’ll be aware of the casting news I touched on regarding Agents of Shield. Now, I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Chris when it comes to season two. I’m willing to bet that of the remaining three episodes, one is going to be a flashback where Chris gets it. I certainly could be wrong. I was wrong when it came to Ofelia running off in the truck, that’s for sure. I can’t say I have fully embraced her leaving but I think in a way I was half right. Half right in Daniel making his eventual return on Fear the Walking Dead. The flashback showed Griselda, Ofelia’s mother. Now while Daniel was mentioned, he was never shown. I think that was to keep him fresh in our minds which will create a more emotional moment when we see him again.
At this point in Fear the Walking Dead, I’m having trouble with the idea that some people still treat the infected as… well… people. In the early days of the infection, where there was much confusion about what was going on, I could understand more. At this point, it’s just not something I can wrap my head around. When Eileen suddenly stabbed Strand because “You took my daughter from me,” I let out a groan. I mean come on. Your daughter had part of her face bitten off, which by this point has certainly begun to rot. You have her locked in the honeymoon sweet, where she shambles around and groans. I think she was already taken from you.
The hotel is taking shape the same way in which the prison did in the Walking Dead. I continue to be convinced that Madison is the Rick of Fear the Walking Dead. Eileen is a danger so Madison states that she needs to be confined indefinitely if she is to stay. I know Madison did have outside input but ultimately she agreed and publicly stated that condition. That’s what the leader does – they take advice from their advisors and then make a decision. I’ve continued to enjoy Alicia’s growth, particularly with standing up to her mother about the lights. I believe Alicia will be here to stay for awhile.
Alejandro certainly began to show a very different side. Up to this point, he has seemed very calm, cool and collected. Once Francisco tried to bail, though, it was a whole different side we saw. That whole situation had me confused, though. Fransico suddenly leaves with his family because of how he found Pablo? Franciso undoubtedly did not make it as far as he did without seeing some gruesome things. Why was this so different that he had to up and leave with his family… during broad daylight no less?
Alejandro doing an about face and suddenly acting like this scared, paranoid man was rather unexpected. You could see the concern in Nick’s eyes when Alejandro became so unreasonable. Could this be the start of an event that will eventually see Nick moving on from Colonia? I think it’s almost certain.
Fear the Walking Dead is slowly bringing the band back together after a trial separation. Madison has already heard of the gringo with matty hair delivering drugs, Travis has seen the hotel lights, Ofelia seems to be heading North and it just so happens that one of the remaining episodes is titled “North.” Everyone has had their chance to evolve and grow as a character, so I’m interested to see how it all plays out when they do all get together again. With only three episodes left, some crazy things are about to go down.
Did you see this week’s Fear the Walking Dead? If so, what did you think? Do you think Chris is dead or has he ran off with the other group? Forget how the events at the hotel started?
