Some people prefer to be honest when it comes to their job. Honesty, however, doesn’t mean that they will get a great outcome. An Iowa worker has gotten himself fired after he filmed how the Petco branch he worked at was dirty. He posted a video on TikTok showing himself as he cleans Petco’s grooming salon. Disgusting won’t be enough to describe what he has seen. The guy cleans several places during the short video, and just when you think it couldn’t get any worse, it does.
He starts by moving a modular kennel wall away, and immediately, you are met with dust and shed hair. There is some kind of layer on the floor as well, but this isn’t the concerning part. What made me concerned was the fact that the Iowa employee used his bare hands to remove part of it. Now, why would you do that? He keeps showing you his cleaning efforts, and you wonder how this branch is still working with how dirty it is. At the end of the video, the guy uses voiceover to say, “It’s been like this for years apparently. I am sorry if I ever put one of your dogs in these kennels. If I could refund every single one of you I would. That still wouldn’t be enough.” It doesn’t come as a surprise that he got fired after posting the video.
People Reacting to the Iowa Worker’s Video
Petco’s former Iowa employee was wondering what he could do legally now that he had been fired for exposing them. He didn’t expect that people would blame him for posting on TikTok instead of filing a complaint. According to him, however, he spoke about this before. “I’ve raised the issue multiple times and have video proof of a manager acknowledging the mess a couple weeks before I released the video,” he wrote. This was in response to someone saying, “What outcome did you expect….. could have just raised it as an issue instead of posting it online.” Others started dragging the worker for violating Petco’s policies as one person wrote:
“Let’s review. Disgruntled employee creates poorly edited video dissing the company they work for. Same employee posts said video on social media, in direct violation of the emplyee handbook that employee acknowledged. Employee gets promoted to customer. Not seeing a problem.”
The dragging continued when OP mentioned his experience in the grooming business. “I’m going to hold your hand when I say this: I have been grooming for 12 years and 11 salons. I know what filth a salon accumulates. Say this with me: WE NEED NEW STANDARDS IN THIS INDUSTRY,” he wrote. To which someone replied by saying, “so you’ve lasted like a year at each salon if that? I see why……” Well, he certainly didn’t expect that: 1. He would be fired, and 2. People would come after him instead of Petco. It’s a lesson to be learned.
