I have to admit that I never thought we would get to a point where grown adults are fighting in public over a child’s trading card game. Well, now that Pokemon has gotten bigger than it ever has been before, it’s something we see a lot more often nowadays. The Pokemon Company recently released a new set of cards titled Pokemon 151, and scalpers were quick to try and buy everything up. Fortunately, there are some regulations in place to avoid these people who only want to make a quick buck. However, that doesn’t mean that some people aren’t going to try.
The above video showcases a fight occurring outside a Costco in Brantford, Ontario. Before the video starts, it appears that several men had tried to go to the big-box store to get the newest release of Pokemon cards. Of course, because of the new trend of purchasing every available packet and then selling them online for an exorbitant amount is the new play. But, since this doesn’t bode well with everyone, several of the men who wanted cards got into a fight over it.
“Gotta fight em all, apparently.”
It’s unclear if all of the men in the video knew one another or had met for the first time while trying to get these cards. However, what is clear is that they all knew the severity of scalping cards and wanted to try to get the upper hand.
I hate to see videos like this because, as a person who genuinely wants to play the physical game, I can’t because there are people who would instead buy out every available pack and sell it online. I can’t even recall the last set of cards that I was able to easily get on release due to the number of adults who would rather that children and fans not enjoy the game at all.
