Quick Time Events have always been a divisive gameplay mechanic. Many players dislike them because they spoil the pace and flow of combat. Yet, some developers have found a way to make them better and not punishing for those who fail them, including Square Enix. Quick Time Events (QTEs) are in Final Fantasy 16, providing cinematic moments. Here’s how to use them.

Unlike other action-adventure games, Quick Time Events or QTEs in Final Fantasy 16 aren’t too punishing. In other titles, failing one means you need to restart the fight or get a lot of damage. In the game, all they do is provide a bigger cinematic experience to the already fantastic game scenes. This is great for those that don’t want to get punished for missing a button press or are focused on the cutscene. In this game, the only thing that happens is that Clive receives minor damage and goes on with the fight.

While failing these Quick Events isn’t bad in Final Fantasy 16, it’s good to learn what types of QTEs the game has. So far, there are 3 types of QTEs that you should remember. Here we’ll list them all:

  • Cinematic Strike: Press Square when the screen flashes blue
  • Cinematic Evasion: Press R1 when the screen flashes red
  • Cinematic Clash: Button Mash Square when the screen flashes orange

If you remember these things, you won’t have any issues when facing Quick Time Events in the game. As we mentioned, don’t be afraid of failing them. The outcome won’t change, and you’ll only get a small variant that doesn’t change the story.

We’re happy that Quick Time Events in Final Fantasy 16 are easy to pull off and don’t punish players. Without a doubt, the developers have thought of many things to make this entry accessible to all gamers. Besides that, there are many options you can choose to tailor your experience in the game, from accessories to make combat easier to certain options that’ll let you enjoy the game at your own pace. So, don’t be afraid to check these features before venturing into this brand-new world.

Final Fantasy 16 is coming to PS5 on June 22.
