Hooked on Final Fantasy XIV but not on ocean fishing? Our guide will teach you to net those elusive Spectral Currents and snag some sweet rewards. Fishing in Final Fantasy XIV may seem like small fry compared to other game features, given that fish don’t hold much value in-game. However, even those who don’t have a great love for fishing can’t resist the siren call of ocean fishing – it’s a fast-paced and rewarding experience that offers fancy rewards like minions, titles, and mounts. What’s more, it’s the ultimate shortcut to leveling up your Fisher, making the grind much more bearable.
Ocean Fishing Guide in Final Fantasy XIV
Fish in Ocean – Final Fantasy XIV
You only need a Fisher job if you want to get your hands on some deep-sea delicacies. That’s right; you don’t need to be a seasoned angler to dive into ocean fishing.
Just complete the quest My First Fishing Rod and then head to the Fisherman’s Guild in Limsa Lominsa to talk to Fhilsnoe (X:7.8; Y:14.5) and start the All the Fish in the Sea quest.
If you’re wondering when to cast your line, just go to Dryskthota (X:3.2; Y:12.8) and make your way to the docks to check the schedule. Ocean fishing kicks off every two hours. And don’t worry if you’re running late; you can still join the queue up to 20 minutes after it starts.
When it’s time to set sail, just head back to Dryskthota and join the queue yourself or with some pals. You’ll be grouped with up to 24 other players, so get ready to cast your net and reel in some big ones.
Baits in Ocean Fishing – Final Fantasy XIV
First, you must speak with Dryskthota and pinpoint the three locations you’ll visit on your fishing trip. Then you must ensure you have the right bait for the job. It’s like going to a fancy restaurant and checking out the menu before you order, but instead of steak or lobster, it’s krill, Plump worm, or ragworm. And don’t forget; you can buy your bait from the Merchant & Mender, conveniently located near Dryskthota.
Now, your objective is to catch those spectral fish with the green icons to trigger a Spectral Current. This is the time to reel in those high-point fish you won’t find anywhere else. And if you want to aim for the best fish, you might have to switch up your bait during a Spectral Current.
But don’t get too excited about changing bait just yet. It’s not that simple because the bait you’ll want to use during a Spectral Current also depends on the location and time of day.
But don’t worry if this seems overwhelming; just concentrate on catching those spectral fish and activating those Spectral Currents, and the rest you can get in this guide as well, read on to avoid problems and wasting time.

There are tons of titles to earn, but you can also snag some sweet minions and an exclusive mount. Want to be a Major-General? Just earn 5,000 points on a single fishing trip.
If you stick with the birds instead, encounter three seagull flocks, and you’ll be rewarded with the Gull minion. If you’re a dolphin fan, encounter three dolphin pods, and you’ll be swimming with the Dolphin Calf minion in no time. And if you’re after the grand prize, the Hybodus mount, you’ll need to earn a whopping 10,000 points on a single trip.
