For the first time in the West, Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and The Blade of Light will be released on the Nintendo Switch.
It may surprise western fans of the Fire Emblem franchise that the game series has been around since 1990. That makes this year Fire Emblem’s 30th anniversary, which is an incredible milestone. The first few games in the series were only released in Japan, as Nintendo did not believe their western audiences would enjoy the difficult tactical gameplay exhibited in Fire Emblem. However, in 2003 the seventh game in the series, Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, released in the west under the name, Fire Emblem. As teased in the above trailer, Marths’ initial appearance was in Smash Bros Melee and practically no one knew who this princely sword wielder was.
With the big 30th anniversary it appears Nintendo is more than ready to celebrate its long-running franchise by releasing Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. This is the real first game in the Fire Emblem series and follows the story of Marth, an exiled Prince from the fallen Kingdom of Altea. Help him raise a powerful resistance against the Dolhr Empire that stole everything from him. Finally, western fans will get the chance to see the humble beginnings of the tactical masterpiece that is Fire Emblem.
