The first teaser trailer for the upcoming VR experience Wallace and Gromit: The Grand Getaway has been shown at the Future Games Show Summer Showcase.
The game will be released on Meta Quest 2 sometime in late 2023 and is the latest video game adaptation of the popular Aardman studio franchise. The last game, Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Adventures, was released for PC in March 2009.
The Dynamic Duo’s First vr Outing Is Here in Wallace and Gromit: The Grand Getaway!
Rumors of a new game based on the Wallace and Gromit franchise began to circulate early last year. Aardman had posted a series of job listings for an unannounced gaming project set in a vast open world and expected to arrive on modern consoles like PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.
However, Wallace and Gromit: The Grand Getaway appears to be something completely different, being a VR experience specifically for Meta Quest 2. In the new teaser trailer, we see the duo fly into space via their spaceship from the 1989 short film A Grand Day Out. This will be the franchise’s very first step into the world of virtual reality.
The previous game, Wallace and Gromit’s Grand Adventures was released in 2009 as a four-part telltale adventure title. A mobile game called Wallace and Gromit: The Big Fix Up was also released in 2021, showing that the franchise may be beginning to foray into new territory.
In other news, Aardman is also developing a new film for the franchise set to be released sometime in 2024 and the first major film outing for the duo since 2008. More news on the Netflix film is expected in the near future.
Wallace and Gromit: The Grand Getaway will be released exclusively for Meta Quest 2 VR headsets sometime in late 2023. For more of the latest gaming and VR news, please be sure to keep reading The Nerd Stash!
