Jada Pinket Smith’s character, Fish Mooney, will be returning in Gotham’s second season.
Fish Mooney, an original character, created for the series was a central figure in the story arc of the first season. One of organised crime kingpin Carmine Falcone’s most trusted lieutenants; Fish was ambitious, smart and dangerous. Believing that Falcone was losing his touch in his old age, Fish began to make her move.
Fish Mooney was seemingly killed off at the end of season one but, as TVLine puts it;
“Fish was last seen in the Batman prequel’s Season 1 finale getting pushed into a watery grave by the Penguin. At the time, showrunner Bruno Heller hinted that the villainess could live to see another day. “I would definitely not assume anything in a town like Gotham,” the EP warned. “It’s very unpredictable, the comic book world.”
Smith has signed on to appear in multiple episodes, implying that she will legitimately return as opposed to simply appearing in flashbacks. This also raises the question of precisely how she will return; did she somehow survive, or will she be brought back to life somehow. While Gotham is set in the DC universe, it has so far kept the fantastical elements to a minimum so this is anyone’s guess.
