As the November election draws closer, the political turmoil surrounding candidates and voters has also intensified, and one interaction even devolved into worryingly below-the-belt insults. One unaffiliated congressional candidate from Florida was left fuming on social media after an alleged MAGA supporter apparently sent him an application reply in his online campaign volunteer form targeting his daughter with an explicit provocation.
Congressional candidate and veteran Mark Davis of Manatee County, Florida, is the politician in question. On July 8, he posted an angry rant on his Facebook account saying “[EXPLETIVE] YOU MAGA!!! I HATE YOU!!!!,” accompanied by a screenshot of the message. The message, sent by email address user pr0lapsed.ureathra.314@gmail.com, specifically stated “I want to [expletive] in your daughter’s [expletive],” in the “Tell us a bit about yourself” section of the volunteer form.
Due to the vulgar nature of the insult and what can easily be assumed as a threat toward Davis’ school-age daughter –allegedly a minor– the angry candidate quickly sought police assistance and wrote in the comment section that, “Manatee Sheriff Department is looking into as was speak.” He also chastised the alleged MAGA supporters in his account’s comment section for making fun of him.
“Over 400 magats have laughed at this so far…wtf is wrong with you? I hope this person is caught…sounds like they may be. Why do you condone this behavior?” questions Davis. It’s not yet independently confirmed whether the sender is an actual MAGA supporter, as Davis stated, but so far, there’s no shortage of social media users making fun of his predicament.
More anonymous hate mail for Davis
In addition to the vile mail directed at his daughter, Davis apparently also received a glitter bomb package addressed to him, as well as death threats earlier. Davis has also reported the packages to authorities. It’s also not clear whether the glitter bomb sender was another MAGA supporter. In any case, numerous Facebook users who appear to be Trump supporters have flocked to Davis’ Facebook account’s comment section to argue with him.
Some of the commenters were even skeptical, claiming, “99% chance you sent that email to yourself,” though that doesn’t really explain the police report Davis allegedly filed about it. Others, however, also took the email seriously, suggesting, “Well she is a minor and I would file a police report even if the name isn’t real.”
Despite Mark Davis’ lack of affiliation with the Democratic Party, the candidate is an outspoken anti-MAGA politician, something he considers a dangerous position in “red florida.” Davis has even claimed that the police haven’t replied yet to his previous police reports about death threats, even though “The amount of death threats I’m getting is concerning.”
