Unfortunately, police brutality is something that seems to be quite common. What’s even more unfortunate is that they usually direct this brutality toward Black people. Police showed their ugly side in broad daylight when they assaulted a Black civilian in Florida. They pulled him over because he didn’t have his headlights on. What’s unbelievable is that no rain or fog would require him to have his headlights on. When he points this out, an officer tells him that it doesn’t matter and that he should still have his headlights on. It is his right to ask to see the law that states that, and he made sure to ask the officer to show him. When they tell him they will only show him the law if he steps out of the car, he asks for their supervisor. This was when chaos started.
The officer tells his partners to go for it, and this is when one of them smashes the innocent Florida man’s window. They didn’t just smash the window. Once it broke, one of the officers roughly punched him in the face. During all of this, the guy is absolutely calm. He isn’t yelling or resisting, yet they are assaulting him. He even complies when asked to show his hands. He keeps asking, “What is your reason?” but they don’t respond. More than three officers drag him out of the car and roughly push him to the ground. One of them punches him again. It is also heartbreaking that a Black officer took part. Imagine doing this to your own people.
They yell at him to stop resisting, but he isn’t resisting at all. They are all on top of him. How would he resist? They then inform him that he is under arrest and keep yelling at him while he is still on the ground. An officer then claims that the fact that the guy closed his doors when they pulled up means that he was resisting. Just unreasonable. Despite how he was being treated, the guy stayed respectful until the end and even called them “sir.” This attack happened last February, but the guy, named Will McNeil Jr., decided to come forward now as he shared the footage he caught through a camera in his car. He also revealed that he had a chipped tooth and had to have nine stitches because his tooth went through his lip.
Other injuries included him suffering a concussion and short-term memory loss. The victim also shared that, till today, he hasn’t healed mentally from the attack. He explained to his loved ones that if they thought he had changed recently, it was because of this. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has also released a statement saying:
“We are aware of a video circulating on social media showing a traffic stop represented to be from February 19, 2025. We have launched an internal investigation into it and the circumstances surrounding this incident. We hold our officers to the highest standards and are committed to thoroughly determining exactly what occurred.”
Police Lying About the Florida Attack
News4Jax talked to McNeil and revealed details from the arrest report that showed how the officer who wrote the report was lying. “He said my seatbelt was off, and it was on in the video,” McNeil said. The report also stated “The suspect refused to comply and shut the driver’s door and locked it. I gave numerous orders to the suspect to provide his identification, which he refused.” The video shows that no such orders were given. McNeil also said he couldn’t roll down his window because it didn’t work. They ended up smashing it.
The officer also wrote in the report “I gave the suspect several warnings that I was going to break the window and remove him from the vehicle if he did not comply with lawful commands. The suspect continued to refuse to comply, at which time I broke the driver’s window and opened the driver’s door.” He didn’t warn the Black civilian about breaking his window. The lies continued. “The arresting officer adds in his report that he believed McNeil Jr. was reaching for a knife under his seat and was ‘continuing to pull away from officers’ while refusing to place his hands behind his back, which required other officers to apply physical force,” wrote News4Jax. How could anyone think he was pulling a knife when he immediately showed his hands upon being asked? This is just terrible.
People Reacting to the Florida Police Brutality
People simply felt outraged by what happened to the Florida civilian. “Got punched and didn’t react. Then they beat him up like he was resisting And then told him to stop resisting. This is why we don’t respect cops,” one person wrote. Someone else pointed out that McNeil wasn’t resisting. “Stop resisting, stop fighting, did someone see him resist, did someone see him fight, what everyone saw was being denied rights and being assaulted, unnecessarily,” they said. Someone else also felt upset that a Black officer took part. “All of this is bad, but I see a black officer that was a young black man before and will most likely raise black children, do absolutely nothing. That hurts the most,” they wrote.
Since McNeil already has an attorney, he would likely be suing. This made someone say, “Welp, you’re rich now.” I hope he will win, especially since he also had to spend two days in jail. The outrage kept going as one person angrily wrote, “I want all of them fired!!!!!!!” Others found the entire scene terrifying. It is traumatizing to anyone. “Holy f**k man. That was scary to watch. I hope you get the justice you deserve,” someone wrote. Hopefully, McNeil will manage to find peace and heal after such a terrible event.
