Florida Courtroom Bombshell as Tiger Woods Pleads Guilty and Cannot Legally Drive Again Until He Turns 55: ‘You Will Immediately Go Back to Jail’

Five years!

Tiger Woods walked into a Florida courtroom Wednesday morning with Vanessa Trump at his side and walked out as a man who legally cannot drive until he is 55, the price of ending the DUI case that has shadowed him since March.

The Florida legend, 50, pleaded guilty at the Martin County Courthouse in Stuart under a plea agreement that resolved the misdemeanor DUI case from his March rollover crash, with the driving-under-the-influence charge reduced to reckless driving. The sentence lands hard for a man whose home, courses, and life run on Florida roads: his driver’s license is suspended for five years, plus fines, in a hearing that was moved up from its original September 8 date and streamed live.

🚨 TIGER WOODS just took the deal.

Plea in his Florida DUI case after the rollover crash. No one was injured. Thank God.

The price: no driver’s license for FIVE YEARS.

Second Florida DUI case. First one, he cut a deal too. This time they took the keys.

Judge Darren Steele closed the brief, televised hearing with a warning that left the stakes of the next five years without any room for interpretation: “For the safety of the public, if you drive, you will immediately go back to jail.” Woods said little, and before the hearing began, he sat at the defense table looking back at the courtroom gallery.

His girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, accompanied him to the courthouse, and the couple was photographed arriving together for what became the biggest legal day of his year.

The case dates to March 27, when his Land Rover clipped a truck hauling a trailer near his Jupiter Island home and rolled over. Per the arrest affidavit, Woods failed field sobriety exercises, told deputies he had taken “a few” prescription medications that day, and had prescription opioids in his pocket, while his breathalyzer showed no alcohol at all. He refused to provide a urine sample, initially pleaded not guilty, and then announced he was stepping away from golf to seek treatment, which a judge permitted him to pursue overseas before his return in June.

The echo is the hard part. This is the second time Woods has pleaded guilty to reckless driving in a case that began as a DUI arrest: in 2017, after officers found him asleep at the wheel in Palm Beach County with a toxicology report showing pain, anxiety, and sleep medications in his system, he entered a first-offender diversion program and served probation. That road eventually ended in redemption, a fifth Masters title, and a comeback for the ages. This one starts with a five-year hole in his driver’s license and a judge’s warning ringing in his ears.

Five Years Without the Wheel

Woods remains publicly engaged with the sport, congratulating Scottie Scheffler Sunday as the young star passed his career earnings record. Whether the 15-time major champion ever returns to competition is golf’s question. Wednesday settled the law.

The internet’s verdict ran on accountability, with one question asked a hundred ways: why does a billionaire drive himself at all? “He can finally get a driver,” one user offered, letting the golf pun do the work. Another kept it measured: “Five years without a license is a serious consequence. Thankfully, no one was injured. Fame and championships don’t put anyone above the law.” And the sharpest reply reached back nine years: “First time he cut a deal and kept the keys. That’s why people stop believing the system.“

The greatest driver of his generation just lost his license at the age of 55.
