An awkward altercation occurred recently in Orlando, Florida when a strange man was confronted by a shopper for taking pictures of women’s “behinds” in a grocery store without their consent. The video, which was originally shared to TikTok, has since racked up over 120k likes and over 2,900 comments, and speaks to the ongoing issue of female harassment by men in public spaces.
The brief footage opens inside of a grocery store in Orlando, and is accompanied by the caption, “Ladies Be Careful!!!!!” In it, we see a man — who personally introduces himself as Christopher Torres — sporting a black vest and khaki shorts. Torres is at a drinks’ machine in the store and is being confronted by a woman who witnessed the man taking pictures of her “behind“.
“My name is Christopher Torres and I took a picture of this lady’s behind.” he says with a smarmy wink and a cheeky smile. “You took a picture of my behind?” the woman clarifies in front of the camera. “Yes I did. Absolutely.” the man unashamedly admits. “And what are you going to do with that picture?” the lady asks.
This is where the footage gets a little more uncomfortable. “Umm, I’m not sure. Maybe later on I’ll figure it out.” he exclaims with another smarmy wink. “Okay, awesome. You’re going on TikTok. You’re f*cking creepy.” expresses the woman, uncomfortably. Torres seems pretty happy about the interaction, however, and simply replies, “Hi TikTok. Oh, I’m creepy because I love beautiful women? What do you want me to take pictures of? I’m a problem? Because I love beautiful women?” before the pair walk away from each other.
As the clip continues to gain traction online, many of the reactions condemned the creepy man’s behavior. On TikTok, one user declared, “I don’t condone what he did, but I get it” while another chimed in with, “In California, legally, him taking this picture for that purpose is an invasion of privacy a misdemeanor w/up to 6 mos in jail/harrassment/stalking“. Some commenters, however, did try and stick up for Torres’ weird behaviour, with one, writing, “He stood on business, and I respect it”
Some social media users were surprisingly supportive of the Florida man, so much so that the original creator posted an additional response, penning, “Stopped reading the comments yesterday but I’m stepping back in not to read but to say this: I am completely confident in who I am and the mindset I carry. If you’re defending this man or attacking me, your opinion doesn’t matter to me anyway because you’ve already shown yourself to be naive and lacking awareness or integrity. Your words don’t shake me. I’m secure in my mental state and untouched by the ignorance and negativity being thrown my way!!😉😉😉”
Meanwhile, over on Reddit, one commenter amusingly wrote, “Damn, he doxed himself! What a tool.” while another added, “His winks were so creepy, this isn’t charming lmao“, which wholly sums up my thoughts on the video.
