When you’re enjoying food and the festivities of an event, Karens are bound to hop out. God save you if you’re in their way and aren’t aware of it. Don’t worry—they’ll let you know. What’s worse is they can strike at any moment. When one woman was attending a festival in Florida, she politely asked for napkins from a nearby vendor. Apparently, that was a mistake because to a Karen, that’s an invitation.
“I met my first ever Karen today, yall,” says TikToker Danielle, as she zooms in towards a food vendor she stopped at in Orlando. While attending, Danielle’s friend, Nicole, stopped at a vendor, ‘Emmiliano’s,’ to grab a few napkins. “Hey, love, can I have a napkin?” Nicole asked the woman attending the stand, in a polite tone, too. Although the woman said it was okay, Nicole claims she said it with a little attitude. Nicole grabbed three napkins, and apparently, three was too many.
According to Nicole, just as she’s about to leave, the ‘Karen’ “slams” on her hand and tells her she can’t have anymore napkins.
“First of all, don’t touch me,” Nicole says. “Second of all, that attitude is why you don’t have customers at your booth.”
As Nicole is recounting the story, Danielle zooms in on the food vendor. As if she had a sixth sense, the ‘Karen’ is shaking a napkin holder, clearly aware she’s being recorded. Shortly after, the napkin holder advanced to peace signs. Horrifying!
Danielle tells her TikTok audience she’s been in customer service for over 15 years. She says that, when she owned a food truck, she “still gave out anything and everything that people walked by and asked for. It’s a napkin.”
And to a degree, Danielle isn’t wrong. However, what she doesn’t seem to understand is that times are incredibly tough for people. If any food vendor hands out napkins for free, they’re doing that at a loss, especially if they’re at a festival. Napkins aren’t exactly expensive, but someone’s got to buy them.
One commenter pointed out, “I wouldn’t have asked her for napkins if I didn’t purchase from her booth,” and the right move.
Another person echoed the same sentiment, adding, “She shouldn’t have touched you!!” And that’s the real problem here: someone swiping a few napkins isn’t justification to get physical. Florida already has enough over-the-top Karens!
