There has been an overwhelming focus on trading card games, collectibles, and other items that can be purchased in bulk on launch day and sold for more online. More specifically, this adheres to Pokémon Trading Card Game collectors. Unfortunately, a collector in Florida, was met with a GameStop manager who allegedly tampered with a pack of Pokémon cards before packaging them to be sold. When the manager felt intimidated by the collector recording, she called the police and had the man kicked out of the store.
The above video was posted to @stockandbabes on TikTok, who typically posts about conflicting situations that happen to other people. More often than not, these videos focus on retail employees who purchase entire stocks of Pokémon cards at the location where they work. In this particular video, @stockandbabes walked into a GameStop store where three employees were working as he attempted to do a card sale.
GameStop now purchases and sells PSA graded trading cards, allowing collectors to do business with them directly in-store. However, he discovered that the manager was reportedly going through packs of cards that were sold to the store before shipping them off to corporate to be examined further. According to commentators and the post’s creator, this isn’t policy, and employees are supposed to seal the bag of cards in front of the customer before shipping them.
According to the video’s caption, “Here you have it collectors. She openly admits to taking them out and going through them before packaging them 😳.”
GameStop Manager Blasted for Not Following PSA Guidelines
Comments from all over flooded the replies, from other people who have had similar experiences at GameStop to former employees venting their frustrations. One former employee explained things further, saying, “As a former GameStop employee this is wild that a manager treated you like this. I’d take this to corporate so quick. They’re supposed to seal the bag the cards ship off in right in front of you before it’s put away.“
Other viewers were far more concerned about the level of aggression the GameStop manager displayed after being confronted by the customer. Two of the top comments about this said, “they were so aggressive so fast,” and “Terrible service. She knew she was in the wrong.” Considering the employees’ actions, I would have to agree.
Fortunately, it doesn’t seem that @stockandbabes was arrested or detained at all after the police were called to the store. However, according to other videos also posted to the account, this is not the first time he has recorded GameStop employees in the store, having allegedly been banned from one of their stores already.
