As you all know, last week people in Florida got news about who would be the ones running for governor, and well, the reactions were far from being positive. A couple of days after, it seems that one candidate isn’t doing too hot due to some of his claims, and we’re talking about none other than Byron Donalds. Apparently, he said in an interview that one “critical thing” for Florida right now is data centers, and people are not happy about how much this Republican is pushing for these controversial facilities.
The video, now covered by sites like Florida Times Daily, shows Republican Governor candidate Byron Donalds talking about data centers. He describes them as critical to the state, alongside power, and says they are key to Florida’s future.
During the interview, he also mentions how the state still has a lot of pristine land, implying that it would be perfect to build a data center in any of these locations. He ends the video by saying that he would love to build as many as four data centers in any of these deals.
As expected, these claims were more than enough to trigger almost everyone in Florida. As you know, the state is already facing several climate-related issues, and adding data centers would only make things worse. On top of that, if these projects come to fruition, they would take even more of this pristine land that Donalds mentioned, which locals don’t want.
Florida Locals Are Still Against Data Centers
Many residents shared their thoughts on social media, with most calling out Byron Donalds for being disconnected from what Florida truly needs and how this data center push hurts everyone in the state.
“People are concerned about ‘AI data centers’ because of the noise and water resource usage. He doesn’t even mention those issues, so we know who he’s working for. Hard pass on this shill. These sociopaths have completely lost the thread and don’t even pretend like they’re normal people anymore. It makes them so much easier to spot and avoid.“
Others are skeptical about his candidacy and, at one point, afraid he could win.
“I can’t believe he might be governor.“
“I’m gonna vote Democrat for the first time ever.”
With the race just starting, this situation doesn’t look good for Donalds, as many, even those supporting the GOP, think his ideas are not the best for the state.
