A Florida gubernatorial candidate from the Democratic Party, Dayna Marie Foster, has come under fire online after she made a controversial statement suggesting that the U.S. is “stolen land.” She made the remarks in a clip shared on her official TikTok campaign account while discussing her immigration policy plans.
In the video, Foster said she plans to protect her immigrant constituents and create pathways that would allow them to achieve citizenship while remaining within the limits of what can be handled at the state level. She also criticized the actions taken by state officials regarding immigration enforcement, saying they were “operating in threads of just being evil” when they provide the identities of immigrants to ICE.
“People come to this country for opportunity, to have a better life, to achieve the American dream that we talk so highly about,” Foster said. “We’re all human beings, and I stand very firm on this. And it’s on our website. No one is illegal on stolen land.”
Netizens React to the Candidate’s Remarks
On X, reactions to the video were largely critical after the clip was reposted by @libsoftiktok, with many users pushing back against her statement. “So she’s running for Governor on stolen land???” one viewer questioned. Another remarked, “Conquered land is not stolen land. It’s how the world worked in the 17th century.” Someone else argued, “There is not one piece of land on this planet that has not been taken from someone else at some point in the past.”
Some even took it as a sign that the Democrat was not suitable for office, commenting things like, “You certainly don’t deserve to be the governor of a state,” and “People like this DO NOT BELONG IN GOVERNMENT EVER!!! MOVE TO ANOTHER COUNTRY LADY!!!”
On TikTok, however, the response appeared to be more supportive, with several commenters expressing encouragement for her campaign. “Girl u 100% have my vote,” one person wrote. Another added, “I’m voting this time and I’ll be voting for you 💙.” A third said, “Thank you for your support and thank you for being an inspiration for each of us,” while a fourth commented, “Just meeting you on this app and I look forward to hearing more about your plans for Florida 🥰🥰🥰.”
The video has continued to gain attention online, drawing in thousands of views on TikTok. On her campaign website, Foster also states that she is running to lower costs and strengthen communities across Florida.
