A Florida man chose to be on the wrong side of the law as he went wild, robbing cash registers in a Walmart store in St. Petersburg in broad daylight. A now-viral clip on Reddit captured the bizarre act of the citizen smashing the cash registers and stealing from them.
The video opened with the suspect behind the counter at one payment checkpoint, ransacking a cash register and slamming the box against the wall. The man stuffed money into his pocket before energetically walking to another payment point.
At the payment point, he smashed the box until it opened and took out the money. Before the clip ended, the suspect repeated the same act on other drawers in the store while customers watched on.
Arrest Cam reported that the Florida resident initially entered the store with no money and went from register to register to ask for change for a $100 without presenting the money. However, he went wild when he was denied, destroying a total of ten registers and taking the money.
Authorities soon arrived at the scene and arrested the culprit as he exited the premises. A recording of his arrest showed him attempting to evade arrest but was tased. After being handcuffed, the suspect was heard explaining himself, saying, “All I needed was a head start, I need a car, a house.”
A body search was carried out on the suspect, and while no weapon was found, several dollar bills were recovered from his pocket. After the robbery video went mainstream, Redditors questioned his method of robbery.
One individual wrote, “Crashing out? Or Cashing out? Maybe I don’t understand.” Another Redditor commented that it was the “Worst robbery technique ever.” A third person added, “Crashing out or robbing the place? Lmao.”
This user analyzed the video and suggested that the suspect was angry about something. The user wrote, “The fact that he is so silent while he breaks multiple registers and steals cash is mind-boggling.”
The netizen continued, “Normally, you see an insane person in situations like this yelling and saying crazy things that can be attributed to severe mental illness. He seems totally chill but determined while trashing stuff. He is so PISSED.”
Another observer agreed that the suspect was angry, writing, “Most likely he lost his sh*t over something trivial. But hey, the customer is always right…right?” A sixth netizen predicted that robberies would soon be normal when the tariffs hit.
The suspect was charged with robbery, resisting without violence, and threatening a public servant. His motion to reduce his $30,000 bond was reportedly denied.
