A man in Florida is facing backlash online after he filmed himself punching a veteran whom he mistakenly believed was a member of the Karmelo Anthony jury, even though the trial is taking place in Texas.
Karmelo Anthony, a Texas teenager, was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 35 years in prison for the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf, 17, during a high school track meet in Frisco in 2025. The case attracted widespread public attention and generated significant discussion online and in communities across the country. The trial also prompted conversations about race, the justice system, and differing public reactions to the case.
In a video shared on Instagram and Facebook, the man filmed himself riding a bicycle toward another man who was sitting on the ground next to a woman. He approached him and asked, “Weren’t you on jury selection?” despite the encounter taking place in Florida while the trial was being held in Texas. Before the man could respond, the cyclist punched him in the face.
“No, he wasn’t. He wasn’t,” the woman said as she stepped in front of her companion and attempted to defend him. Rather than backing down, the man continued insisting that the victim had been involved in jury selection. The woman then stated that the man was a veteran and again repeated that he had not been part of Anthony’s jury.
The attacker then made another threatening remark, telling the veteran, “You gonna die.” The woman continued insisting that he had not been part of the jury. As the man began riding away on his bicycle, the veteran threw a drink in his direction, but it did not appear to hit him. The man could also be heard laughing while continuing to film the couple.
The man then said that he believed the veteran had served on the jury in Anthony’s case. That was a claim that the couple again denied. The video ended with the man riding farther away while laughing. The footage was later removed from his Facebook account, though it remained available on Instagram. Some users expressed support for his actions, including one commenter who wrote, “Out there doing the lords work.”
Viewers Outraged After Florida Man Punches Veteran
The video sparked reactions online. After the video went viral, many viewers expressed outrage over the Florida man’s actions. “Florida AG, handle this. Make an example out of him,” one person wrote. Another person claimed, “He didn’t think this innocent man was on the Karmelo Anthony jury….he just wanted to strike a white man….period….full stop.”
More viewers expressed outrage over the incident. One person wrote, “And people wonder why racism is becoming rampant again…” Another person said, “Either these violent punks have very low IQ’s or they are just the most racist people alive steeped in victim hood.” Someone else added, “They’ll still defend it somehow and say it’s okay. [Expletive] INSANE and embarrassing.”
The video sparked discussion about rising tensions surrounding the trial and concerns about how such incidents affect the United States. It also led to conversations about accountability and whether actions like these should be met with stricter consequences. This is in order to prevent similar behavior in the future.
