A McDonald’s manager in Florida is facing backlash after a video showed her reprimanding an elderly employee at a customer table in full view of other diners instead of handling the matter privately.
The video, filmed by a bystander, has spread widely online and sparked criticism over how the employee was treated and how workplace discipline was handled in the middle of the restaurant.
The video was filmed at a McDonald’s in Fort Myers, Florida, and shared on TikTok by user @lodzjules. The caption said the incident happened “this morning at McDonald’s between colonial right across from Walmart.” The poster also criticized the manager for handling the situation “right in front of everybody while we were eating” and said she appeared not to care about the employee’s feelings.
In the footage, an older employee wearing a McDonald’s uniform and yellow sash sits at a dining table with a McCafé cup and paperwork in front of him. A manager wearing a red ‘Welcome to Beverages’ shirt and a headset stands over him, leaning on the table and pointing at the documents as she speaks.
The employee mostly looks down and listens before picking up a pen and signing the paperwork. The conversation takes place in the open dining area, with self-order kiosks, the drink station, and other customers visible in the background.
In longer versions of the video, audio captures the manager discussing several performance issues. She mentions a messy lobby, an uncleaned drink station and counter area, and the employee not staying busy during his shifts.
The employee appears to be receiving a formal write-up rather than simply being spoken to, which became the main reason viewers criticized the manager’s approach.
Internet Reacts to Florida McDonald’s Manager Confrontation
The video sparked debate online, with many commenters expressing sympathy for the employee and frustration with the manager’s approach. One commenter claimed, “A quick search showed me that this gentleman is someone with special needs. He is highly dedicated to his work, and he works hard for his independence. I hope this manager is fired. Shame on her.”
Another made a related claim, writing, “And she mentions that it will go to his case worker… which means he is probably receiving assistance and having to work in order to keep those benefits. What a horrible manager.”
The above specifics have not been independently confirmed.
Several other commenters focused on the setting rather than the employee’s circumstances. One wrote, “Looks like she wrote him up during his break as I see a cup of coffee next to him. Write up and reprimands are always to be done in private and NEVER in front of customers. So unprofessional of her.”
A former manager echoed that standard, writing, “As a former manager… she was in the wrong… you are supposed to correct in private..and praise in public..she needs to be reprimanded for this.” Another added, “This is very unprofessional. Hope he’s okay. There’s no need to humiliate someone in this manner. She needs classes on etiquette.”
Neither McDonald’s corporate office nor the Florida location has publicly commented on the video as of this writing.
