A Florida mother was excited to receive her daughter’s school pictures, only to discover that Lifetouch had sent her photos of a different girl from another school.
Lifetouch is a professional photography company that provides school photography services across the United States and Canada. It works with schools to photograph students for Picture Day, yearbooks, student IDs, and other school-related purposes, and allows parents to purchase their children’s photos.
The mother shared a video about the mix-up with her daughter beside her. She began by saying, “This is not my kid,” while pointing to a photo of a little girl whose face was covered with a flower for privacy. The mother said the girl pictured was not her daughter and that she did not recognize the child.
The mother explained that her daughter’s school had emailed her the previous week to say that all the students’ school pictures were in their classrooms and ready for parents to pick up. When she went to her daughter’s classroom and asked the teacher for the photo, the teacher realized that her daughter’s picture was not in the stack.
The school told the mother to contact Lifetouch directly. When she called, the company said it could locate her daughter’s pictures and send them the following day. She also described what her daughter looked like on Picture Day, noting that her daughter had told her about the different poses the photographer had asked her to do. This made her confident that her daughter had taken the pictures.
The mother was excited to receive her daughter’s photos finally, but that excitement quickly turned to disappointment. When Lifetouch contacted her, the company sent her a photo of a different girl named Gracie, whom she did not know. To show what had happened, the mother shared a screenshot of the message asking her to confirm whether the girl in the picture was her daughter. “No, it’s not,” she said.
“How can we be messing this up?” the mother asked, pointing out that her daughter attended a small school. After receiving the wrong picture, she sent Lifetouch a photo showing what her daughter looked like. “I genuinely don’t think I’m gonna get her pictures,” she said, explaining that the issue had still not been resolved.
“Lifetouch, you have some explaining to do because HOW did we end up with another child’s school photos?! This is a literal school picture day fiasco. And if you’re Gracie’s mom… I have your sweet little girl’s pictures. Meanwhile, we’re still trying to figure out where Valentina’s picture day photos went,” she wrote in the caption.
What Happened Next
After sharing the initial video, the mother posted a final update. She said the mix-up had become a safety concern and that Lifetouch contacted her to say her daughter’s photo could not be found. “Their excuse was that sometimes photos get corrupted when they are taken,” she said.
The mother called the company “irresponsible” and accused it of “breaching other students’ confidentiality.” She said the representative who contacted her claimed this was not a Lifetouch habit. The mother, however, disagreed and argued that it was a habit.
The concerned parent continued criticizing Lifetouch for sending her another student’s photo. She argued that the mix-up should not have happened under the company’s policies. She also said she was no longer interested in having her daughter attend a future Picture Day event. According to the mother, she believed Lifetouch was trying to close the case. This led her to tell the company to keep it open, or she would call back and open a new one.
“I just refuse to believe that this picture is just nonexistent,” she said. The mother added that she had reported the photographer and filed a separate complaint about the person who sent her another student’s photo. She also contacted the organization responsible for hiring Lifetouch to explain what happened. She said she hoped this would prevent the company from being hired again. It remained unclear what would happen next, but the mother said she intended to continue pursuing the matter.
Viewers Concerned Over Florida Mom’s Video
Many viewers expressed concern after seeing the Florida mother receive another child’s school photo. “I would be mad also concerned if they sent me another child picture,” one person wrote. Another viewer shared a similar concern. They said, “It’s also a huge safeguarding risk that they send you another child’s school photos.”
Another commenter suggested that the company should have safeguards in place to prevent photos from being lost. They wrote, “yes…photos can become corrupt on a SD card. However, situations like this, they should have a professional camera with double SD cards. Weddings photogs have them, school photographers should have them, as well. If pictures are going missing THAT many times…there is an issue that needs to be addressed IMMEDIATELY.”
The incident raised concerns about how photography companies hired by schools handle and protect children’s photos. It also highlighted the risk of accidentally sending parents pictures of children who are not their own.
