Alcohol is generally recommended as something a Parkinson’s patient would not want in their diet. However, one Florida physical therapist was a bit surprised to find out that the older man they had been treating was day-drinking, albeit allegedly unknowingly. Reddit user Sneakybrownoser explained that they had taken the man’s blood pressure and noticed it was much higher than normal. “He told me he’d been drinking water because he had a ‘seltzer’ earlier,” Sneaky noted, but what they found on his kitchen table said otherwise.
“I happened to look into his kitchen and noticed a couple of unopened White Claws sitting on the table,” Sneaky recalled, after which they confronted their patient about the alcoholic beverages. Needless to say, the man admitted to drinking it but claimed he thought “it was regular seltzer water.” Sneaky said they believed the patient’s wife might have bought it for him without reading the label properly.
Sneaky told the older couple that White Claw Hard Seltzer isn’t simply flavored sparkling water, since it’s labeled as 5% ABV. Fortunately, the man wasn’t allegedly showing any other concerning symptoms besides the high BP, but quite a few Redditors had something to say about what they consider “predatory labeling.”
Multiple Redditors Accused White Claw Cans’ Labeling of Being Misleading
One person commented that Celsius cans look too similar to White Claw drinks, making them double-take when they see coworkers drinking Celsius. “If it makes you feel better my mom gave me a Mike’s Hard Lemonade when I was 10 because she thought it was just regular lemonade in a fun bottle,” confessed another Redditor.
“My mom, who doesn’t drink, was drinking these and she didn’t realize they had alcohol,” shared a third. “Well… It does say seltzer,” joked a fourth. A few people even said the physical therapist shouldn’t bother and just let the older man “enjoy what’s left of his life.”
In the end, at least the couple knows exactly what White Claw Hard Seltzer is and can be more “informed” on their seltzer purchases in the future. As Redditors pointed out, though, perhaps someone in White Claw’s marketing department might want to have a look over the labeling.
