Security guards are typically meant to help people feel secure and safe, but one working at a Florida hospital allegedly managed to do the complete opposite. It was 3 AM, and Reddit user EmergencyFox8423 says she had just been discharged from the ER after dealing with some dehydration and fainting issues. She was waiting for her Uber ride when the night-shift guard approached her and began asking her some rather inappropriate questions.
After commenting on the tattoo on Emergency Fox’s arm, the security guard asked, “How many do you have?” referring to how many children she had. She replied none, and that’s when things got beyond awkward. The man recalled staring at another woman covered in tattoos at a store until she explained. To this, he remarked, “If you have tattoos, it’s your fault that people are staring at your body.”
When Emergency Fox’s Uber was a minute away, she says she promptly went for the exit to get out of the awkward position she was in. It wasn’t over, as the security guard allegedly followed her out and began demanding to know why she didn’t have children. Fortunately for her, the Uber driver arrived before things got any more uncomfortable than they had.
“After thinking more about it, I feel like that was super inappropriate,” Emergency Fox wrote in retrospect, remarking that she could have been the victim of a miscarriage at the ER that night. Had the guard asked her the same things about kids, it would have been devastating. But poorly choiced questions and comments aside, she claims she felt more safe outside alone than with this guard who wouldn’t leave her in peace. Now, she wonders whether reporting the man is warranted.
Reddit Demanded She Report the Hospital Security Guard
While a few called it small talk, plenty of Redditors sided with Emergency Fox and agreed that the security guard was acting unprofessionally and should be reported. “I work security and the number of whackos in this profession is mind-boggling,” remarked a commenter. “I have reported guards to my own employer because they made ME uncomfortable on the job,” they said, urging OP to follow her gut and report the man.
“It’s worth reporting because there’s no telling how many other women he’s made uncomfortable, and that’s a seriously inappropriate thing to do at a hospital,” added another Redditor. “Need security guard for the security guard,” joked a third. “Dude is a creep and is working somewhere that has vulnerable people,” accused a fourth.
In the end, Emergency Fox said she ended up reporting the security guard. While she doesn’t wish for him to lose his job, she believes the hospital definitely needs to know when a staff member is making a patient feel in danger.
