Florida Sen. Rick Scott posted on X, highlighting the sharp rise in family healthcare costs, from about $700 a year 50 years ago to over $25,000 today, along with increases in housing, cars, and business expenses. He attributed the changes to congressional spending. The post has drawn significant attention online, with many users reacting strongly to his comments and raising questions about his record on healthcare issues.

50 years ago: Healthcare was about $700 a year for a family of four.

Now: It’s over $25,000.

Cars cost more. Houses cost more. Starting a business costs more. You name it.

Why? Because CONGRESS keeps spending money we don’t have and working families pay the price. pic.twitter.com/3lyThK2r6m

In the video from Punchbowl News, Sen. Scott describes buying his first business, a doughnut shop, 50 years ago when no permits were required. He contrasts this with the years and thousands of dollars needed to open a similar shop today. He recounts growing up poor in public housing with little income and compares past and current costs for healthcare, education, and housing.

According to Sen. Scott, healthcare for a family of four cost about $700 a year five decades ago, but now exceeds $25,000. He notes low past education expenses, such as $200 per semester for junior college covering 21 hours. He mentions a friend who bought a new house for $21,000 while in high school, with similar properties now valued around $300,000 after 50 years. He attributes broader cost increases, including student debt and new cars, to years of massive government spending and trillions in accumulated debt. However, the video does not provide independent verification of all figures or specific policy links.

The Split Response to Florida Sen. Rick Scott’s Post

Some users linked the higher costs to immigration and government programs. One commenter wrote that costs rise “so DC & their immigrant voters can benefit” and urged “Deport!” Another stated that everything costs more because the country has been “flooded this country with 100 million foreigners that rely on gov handouts and subsidies.”

Other responses focused on Sen. Scott’s record and votes. One described the post as “a bunch of *expletive* coming from this guy who voted for adding over $5 trillion to the national debt with Trump’s big *expletive* Bill.”

Another said, “Yet YOU defrauded Medicare and Medicaid for $1.7 billion!! You were then ousted with a $300 million golden parachute. Spare us your outrage! YOU are in part the reason for these rising healthcare costs!! @Republicans @JDVance @HouseGOP @SenateGOP Vance – do address this fraudulent history amongst Republicans, won’t you? Educate yourself— please!!”

Additional comments addressed property taxes and broader political steps, including calls to replace Senate leadership and pass legislation aimed at a balanced budget.

The clip has added to the ongoing national conversation about the rising cost of living and the role of federal spending. As reactions continue to unfold on X, the post underscores the deep divisions in how Americans view the causes and solutions to these long-term economic pressures.
