President Donald Trump’s new policies and tariffs have made thousands of people, even his biggest supporters, turn on him. A recent town hall rally in Florida was filled with several Republicans lamenting the state of the country and how Trump has made life considerably harder for them despite voting for him.
A video of the meeting was posted on Reddit with the caption, “Another town hall, another outrage.” An audience member could be heard lamenting how Americans have “never been more worried” about the economy and democracy.
The protester added that Congress has failed to function as it should, which was met with loud applause from the audience. The Republican protester continued her speech, saying:
“From the start of the Trump administration, we’ve seen chainsaw cuts to federal agencies which were providing vital services to Americans. We’ve lost everything from food banks to medical research to the odds and education.”
The Republican voter pointed out that funds were initially provided to make the country a better place. However, when Trump initiated cuts through Elon Musk, no one did anything to stop it. She also emphatically said that “no one voted for” Musk, who has spearheaded most of the budget cuts via DOGE.
“We are seeing wildly chaotic tariffs placed on the global economy, which, believe it or not, is not going to stimulate manufacturing in the United States in my lifetime, which does promise to generate a major recession very soon, and that will be in my lifetime,” the protester lamented.
She also further pointed out that Congress had “passively watched” as the president usurped their rights to kick against the tariffs. The angry Boomer added that their Canadian neighbors have also been harassed and singled out for no reason other than “the president’s senseless attacks” on a country that’s supposed to be America’s ally.
She concluded by boldly asking the congress member standing on the podium, “Where will you be when they further cut social security and even further, for that matter, free speech?”
Before the video was cut off, the congress member said no cuts had been made to Social Security. However, his voice was drowned out.
The clip of the protester’s speech went viral, and many users commended the woman for speaking out against Trump despite being MAGA.
One user commented, “Rather than all the snarky comments, I’m just glad to see at least some of his voter base are waking up. This was a very well-spoken statement.”
Another Redditor remarked, “I just gotta say this, if you’re a republican and you’re in the working class, you’re a fool. Their policies do not ever benefit you.”
Notably, most of the audience in the town hall meeting appeared to belong to the Boomer generation. Maybe they are finally waking up.
