A Florida woman was left in tears after she said a group of teenage girls fat-shamed her and laughed at her over the size of her milkshake order.
The woman shared a video recounting what happened. She explained that she had taken her family to an ice cream shop after dinner. While they were placing their order, a group of teenage girls stood behind them in line. She said she ordered something that was similar to a milkshake and was surprised by how large it was when it arrived. That was when the girls began mocking her.
According to the woman, she turned to the employee and said, “I’m not gonna be able to finish all of this.” She said that one of the teenage girls then made what a fat-shaming remark, replying, “Yeah, you can,” in reference to the woman’s weight. When the woman looked back at the group, the girls laughed instead of apologizing for the comment.
The woman was left in disbelief and could not believe the girl had made the comment. She continued looking at the group as the other girls laughed. Eventually, she walked over to confront the girl and asked whether she had actually said it. According to her, the teenager then began “profusely apologizing.” However, she claimed that the girl denied making the fat-shaming remark and instead said, “I’m so sorry that you think you heard that.”
“You should be a lot kinder to people. That’s not cool,” the woman said before walking away. Reflecting on the encounter in her video, she said she wished she had gone back to confront the girls again. Becoming emotional, she added, “It is so hard to lose weight. I have lost over 100 pounds, and I still struggle with food.”
As the woman continued sharing her experience, she became teary-eyed while describing how the incident affected her. “I know I walk around and people are thinking I’m huge, and I think it too, but I have to live with myself,” she said. She then directed an emotional message toward the teenage girls after using profanity, saying, “I really hope you get what’s coming to you. I really hope you find kindness.”
Still holding back tears, the woman said she hoped the girls would never have to experience an eating disorder or struggle with body image. She then told them that if they continued judging people based on their appearance, “you suck and you should change your mindset,” adding that they never know what someone else may be going through. She ended the video by saying that she does not want to be fat.
