A Florida woman receives mixed reactions for claiming that Spanish speakers should have to learn English. In the TikTok video, she claims her issue is not that immigrants are moving to America or that they speak another language, but that “businesses are overly accommodating to them.” Her video has over 223,000 views, over 44,000 likes, and over 3,000 comments.
The response began when the woman saw a video saying you shouldn’t come to Miami, Florida, if you don’t speak Spanish. She explains that her problem isn’t with “what people speak in their house,” but with businesses. She gives the example of ordering coffee: “It takes me 10 minutes because the speaker doesn’t know English.” She alleges that she has to know a second language to order coffee. However, her biggest issue is that it allegedly “makes the job market extremely hard.”
The Florida woman claims that the job market is “overly accommodating to Hispanic people, and basically pushing out every other population.” She insinuates that Haitian immigrants learn English “in two years” after they arrive in America. The woman shares a story about her Haitian grandma who came here with five kids and “still learned the [expletive] language.” While she understands the use of Spanish in Miami because of the large population, she argues that her problem is when people come who don’t speak English. She believes that this then “force[s] these businesses to accommodate [them] because they need [their] money.” This in turn allegedly pushes out other populations.
Mixed Reactions To Florida Woman’s Comments
Several commenters agree with her statements. One adds, “Don’t move to America if you don’t know how to speak English, especially if you’re willingly trying not to learn how to.” Another states, “I personally think any country someone goes to or moves to, they should learn at least the basics of the language.” A third comment reads, “People genuinely think they can come to America and not have to assimilate. It’s a very entitled mindset in my opinion.”
However, others disagree and have mixed feelings about the subject.
