Florida Woman Sounds Alarm After Her Kidney Function Drops from Using Liquid I.V.: ‘Just Drink Water Everyone’

Nothing can be better than water

In recent years, electrolyte supplements have surged in popularity as more people look for quick ways to stay hydrated. That rise has paved the way for several hydration-focused brands, including one of the best-known in the U.S., Liquid I.V. As CNN notes, “Liquid I.V. has become one of the biggest brands to capitalize on hydration.” But that success may carry a serious downside. A Florida woman is now warning others after claiming that her use of Liquid I.V. coincided with a sharp decline in her kidney function. In a TikTok video, she explained that a routine checkup revealed her kidney function had dropped by 30%.

Electrolytes and liquidIV is NOT helping you stay hydrated daily. Literally scared the 💩 out of myself when I learned what was doing to my body- thinking I was helping. #liquidiv #electrolytes #sportsparents

The Florida woman said that her doctor told her that this trend of using products that have electrolytes, such as Liquid I.V., isn’t actually helpful. If the body isn’t sweating, it doesn’t need this amount daily. She then warned people by saying that they are “literally slowly killing our kidney function.” This is because the products put a lot of stress on the kidneys. She then added that you don’t need those unless you are actually sweating; she did clarify that this wasn’t medical advice from her, though. “Electrolytes and liquidIV is NOT helping you stay hydrated daily. Literally scared the [expletive] out of myself when I learned what I was doing to my body- thinking I was helping,” she wrote in the caption.

People Reacting to the Florida Woman’s Warning

It turned out that many people weren’t up to speed. After all, these supplement waters are hugely popular. But since nothing should replace good old H2O, one person wrote, “Just drink water, everyone.” Others then started offering advice and more information as one woman said, “My husband is a kidney doctor and always says people shouldn’t over-hydrate. If you’re thirsty , you will drink.” Another person added, “Taking too many vitamins and supplements ruins your kidneys, too.” Someone else wondered why people would take this stuff in the first place. “Wait, why are we taking liquid IV every day? The amount of sodium and sugar in the packets is a clear indicator that this shouldn’t be consumed regularly,” they wrote.

More people left comments under the Florida woman’s video. There was one person who wanted people to stop following trends blindly. “Love tht ur spreading awareness but like can we please stopp taking things like supplements and all bcz they are trending. If another person started using it and its helping them doesnt mean it will help u. If things are easy to buy and over the counter DOESNT MEAN THEY ARE SAFE FOR EVERYONE! If ur eating right and drinking enough water and u dont have any illness and ur blood tests are all in the normal range then an excess of any supplement will harm u,” they wrote. Hopefully, this video will help people avoid hurting their kidneys.
