Just like a child who can’t understand being told no, one door-to-door salesman in Georgia couldn’t seem to grasp that his client wanted him gone. Technically, Reddit user Sharkysharkwahlberg wasn’t even his client, considering she didn’t want to do business with the man in the first place. She posted their interaction on r/mildlyinfuriating, where she first explained via the title that the salesman just would not leave her home.
From the start, the door-to-door salesman was not welcome to begin with, as Sharkysharkwahlberg’s house allegedly has a “big red no solicitors sign.” OP says she moved into the house earlier this year and was not prepared for how many “relentless” solicitors are in the area. That said, the reason she opened the door for this particular salesman was that she claimed to have been expecting a package she needed to provide a signature for.
Sharkysharkwahlberg first made sure the salesman knew his kind were not welcome at her home by pointing out the no solicitors sign. She says he didn’t seem to catch the hint the first time, so she told him directly, “please leave my property.” When that didn’t work, she tried to be empathetic and understanding, followed by “I’m not interested, so please leave.”
To her surprise, his response was, “Don’t you think it’s ironic that you’re saying that, but you have a bumper sticker that says ‘no one is illegal on stolen land?’” And with that, OP threw politeness to the side and showed the salesman the door, literally. “For the first time in my life I slammed a door in someone’s face,” she recalled.

Many Redditors were surprised she let the man get that far in the first place. “I don’t even let them talk. I just say I’m not interested and shut the door. It’s pretty effective,” remarked a commenter. Others agreed, firmly recommending that door-to-door salespeople not even be given the light of day. “Don’t even engage. As soon as you realize it’s sales, just simply say “no thanks” and close the door firmly,” wrote another Redditor.
A few suggested even being rude from the get-go by sending salespeople away by verbally giving them the bird. Varying tactics aside, these individuals are still people and deserve humane respect, though with the alleged way many treat their potential clientele, it’s hard to see why Sharkysharkwahlberg and countless others are slamming doors in their faces.
