Forager is a 2D open world game that originally released back in April on Windows PC. With a promised future release on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. It received stellar reviews. And has remained quite popular. Thanks to this it is set to receive a physical retail release later this year. Distributor Nighthawk Interactive has announced a September 13th date for this release, which will be for both the PS4 and Switch. You can check out the original trailer for Forager’s Switch release below.
You probably guessed this from the trailer. But Forager takes inspiration from games like The Legend of Zelda, Stardew Valley, and Terraria. It has a sprawling 2D world. And focuses heavily on player freedom. You can treat it like a Zelda game and spend your time traversing dungeons. Or you can engage in agricultural pursuits. There’s gathering, crafting, and building systems. You can do any one of these. Or all of them. It’s entirely up to you.
A lot of games that offer so many play types tend to well… suck. But based on reviews I’d say that Forager does quite nicely. I have seen people say that it’s easy to lose track of time playing and sink dozens of hours into it. Which is what people really want from this genre. That is to say, something they pick up and intend to play for a few minutes only to find it’s now 4 in the morning and there will be no sleep for you. The developer HopFrog is also still supporting the game with the most recent update being released only last month.
So about the actual release. As said above, it will be coming to North America on September 13th. For a price of $29.99. It will include exclusive stickers and a poster. You can already pre-order it at Gamestop. But Forager will also be available at other retailers including Amazon, and Best Buy.
