The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening has a release date. The Nintendo Direct at E3 today revealed that September 20th, 2019 will be the official launch.

Zelda: Link's Awakening - Gameplay & Release Date Trailer (E3 Nintendo Direct)

Fans of the Zelda series won’t have to wait too much longer. It was previously revealed that Nintendo was working on a remake of the beloved Gameboy classic a few months ago. All players new up until now was that a fall 2019 release date was in the cards.

At first, many speculated that late fourth quarter 2019 would be the official release of Links Awakening, but this has proven to be inaccurate.  Zelda fans the world over must be thrilled that the release of the remake is only three months away.

The internet has been split since The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening was announced in the form of a kick-ass trailer. The video showed some impressive animation of Link braving a storm at sea as he struggled to remain in control. As Link washes up unconscious on a mysterious island, the adventure begins.

The initial trailer animation had fans reeling, but the subsequent gameplay footage got a mixed reaction. The overly cartoony nature of the game definitely has that love it or hate it feel. The game has a Claymation meets Pixar look, making Link more like a little boy than an adult hero.

The original Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening was released in 1993 for the Game Boy. The game was re-released in 1998 under the title The Legend of Zelda: Links Awakening DX for the Gae Boy Color.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild hit the world by storm when the Switch was released. The game breathed (pun intended) new life into the franchise and has sold almost 13 million units. Players are chomping at the bit for a sequel, but they will have to settle for Links Awakening for now.

Any new Zelda game is better than no Zelda game at this point. Whether you like Awakenings animation style or are vehemently against it, Switch fans are still getting something to wet their Hyrule appetites.
