The people of Minnesota have been standing up against Trump’s attack on the state and ICE’s presence for a long time. The brutality being used by ICE agents made some believe that Trump has made the state his target. Some of the reasons cited for this hate include the latest fraud scandal and Trump’s feud with Tim Walz. Now, former Minnesota governor Jesse Ventura has a solution for all of this. He wants the state to join Canada. “How about since Trump dislikes Minnesota so bad and we’re so out of control, let’s join Canada,” he said in an interview. Ventura then said that instead of making Canada the 51st state, like Trump dreams, they should do what he suggests. At least that won’t make Canadians lose their healthcare.
Ventura then continued, saying he would like it if Minnesota ended up joining Canada in real life. “It’s obvious Donald Trump don’t want us,” he said, which is hard to argue against. Ventura’s following statements included more criticism of Trump. He said that it is clear that Trump is ready to fracture the entire country for “his own folly.” The former governor kept reiterating this suggestion, saying they could even start a petition on the matter. “I’m sure Canada would be happy to take us,” he continued.
The video then ended, but this isn’t the first time Ventura came after Trump. “I gave up on this country when this guy got in. I haven’t even watched the news since last November. … Here I was leading a nice, quiet life, and now you’ve injected me back in here and probably going to make me the governor of Minnesota again,” he recently told Fox 9 as according to The Hill.
People Reacting to Former Minnesota Governor’s Suggestion
With the number of people in Minnesota who are against Trump and ICE, it’s not surprising that many actually agreed with what Ventura suggested. “This Minnesotan is all for being part of Canada‼ [expletive],” one person wrote. A Reddit user also added, “God I wish.” Another person liked Ventura’s courage and even called him a patriot. “Yes. He’s clearly a patriot and smarter than people gave/give him credit for. Not saying he’d be my top choice for governor but I’d honestly probably vote for him over Amy at this point,” they wrote. Someone else believed that this solution would satisfy everyone including ICE. “If ICE wants to deport everyone… they should be happy about this,” they commented. That’s a good point.
Those who took Ventura’s suggestion seriously were ready to sign a petition. “Start the petition Jesse, you have the means to get it rolling,” one person wrote. Another person had another suggestion as they said, “Or return our land to the native tribes. Minnesota can be a native state.” When someone said that voting in the midterms is better than joining Canada, one Redditor had a pessimistic outlook. “Midterms will happen, but it’s a fantasy to think that will save us. It will slow down our state of decay, but it will not reverse it. The only way to reverse the damage done to this country is to strip billionaires of their power and influence. Until that happens we’re just hanging onto a swinging pendulum and at best we’ll have 4-8 years of less insanity before we resume our decline,” they commented. That’s one way to look at it.
